Welcome in the Year of the Green Wood Sheep, beginning this year on February 19th!
And how welcome it is! (If you go back a year to my Year of the Horse post and read it, you'll see I wasn't kidding! ai yi!
I don't know about you, but the Year of the Wood Horse kind of kicked my ass. Sheep years are often a very welcome change of pace from the previous high energy years, and this is definitely no exception.
The Year of the Sheep marks an energetic shift that heralds a more grounding focus on things- an industrious year, no doubt- one that finds a pleasurable security in a more 'chop wood, carry water' outlook. Practicality is an energy that keeps us on an even keel. An upside to this is that because there is less frittering of energy due to chaos in the financial sector, there is more time for relaxation and the good things in life. The Sheep is a sensualist- enjoying things like food, art, romance- and making time for these areas during the Sheep year is highly recommended for quality of life. The Sheep is also a bit of a dreamer, and finds joy in envisioning plans to bring to fruition. We were busy almost to the point of distraction last year, so Sheep reminds us that we can now take a moment or ten and remember what makes life worth living- and also allows us to deeply explore what our passions and purpose may be and how we can achieve that.
Another financial upside is that this Year of the Sheep is the Year of the Green Wood Sheep- and the Wood Sheep is especially fortunate in regards to finances. We will see steady improvement economically, especially in areas where there is communication and personal connection. We should feel an easier flow with personal financial pursuits, and in the Year of the Sheep, hard work and elbow-grease productivity tends to pay off in a very satisfactory measure- which will make our relaxation time particularly rewarding.
Politically, Sheep years remain interesting and unpredictable- but tend to refrain from plunges into calamity. Things like values become a forefront for political battles, so party divisions tend to butt heads like rams (the Year of the Sheep is also known as the Year of the Ram, or Goat). Compromise is one of our biggest allies during Sheep years, and this definitely includes the political arena. As Sheep are big proponents for social justice, the movements that focus on social justice should gain good ground and solid support against opposition. However, political arguments within personal relationships are going to be a waste of time and energy- agree to disagree with those in your personal network in the Year of the Sheep, unless you don't mind losing connections for your convictions- because stubborness is a hallmark challenge in conflicts during these years. Again, if compromise can be achieved, that is one of the best ways to maintain peace. Sheep love peace, so the good news is it will easier to reach a compromise this year as opposed to others.
Another key concept that gets attention during Sheep years is adaptability. This is a key concept that is able to get a little more analysis in practice as opposed to theory- because we have plenty of opportunity to see how our skills are in that area this year, without it crashing us completely to the ground. And this is good, because in the following Year of the Monkey, all kinds of unexpected nuttiness can break loose. Take that practicality of this Sheep year and assess your stores and skills. Create stronger bonds with your allies. Allow yourself to relax and laugh, but just remember to keep one eye on the road ahead and make sure you use this year wisely to lay a good foundation for the next!
